Both Goals From Centre Halves

Arsenal 2-0 Everton ยท Premier League ยท Emirates Stadium ยท 24 October 2026

Two goals, two centre halves, two corners. After Munich and the week that preceded it, a home game decided by set pieces and a clean sheet was more or less exactly what was needed.

Konsa on Seven, Gabriel on Sixty-Eight

Three corners in a row inside the opening minutes, and from the third Ezri Konsa poked in at the back post after Gabriel had flicked it on. First goal for the club, seven minutes in.

Gabriel got the second on 68, heading in a Konsa cross to the back post. It was his 200th Premier League appearance, and he had already given everyone a fright before he scored it.

Twenty shots to eight, four on target to three, twelve corners to three, fifty-eight percent of the ball. Not a classic, but never in doubt after the opener.

The Gabriel Moment

He went down and stayed down, and the reaction around him was worse than the fall. Arteta was clear about what frightened him:

"We were all scared. Not because of the way he went down, but the reaction of the players that were next to him."

Gabriel stayed on and scored. Arteta called him "a clear example" of the mentality in the group, and on this evidence it is hard to argue.

Arteta on Konsa and on the Week

"It's a big win for us."

On Konsa, who arrived without a pre-season and has gone straight into the side:

"Unbelievable. To come to a club like Arsenal with no pre-season and position yourself with the naturality he has and put in the performances he has is so difficult to do."

Where That Leaves Us

Seven wins from eight in the league, twenty-one points, level with Manchester City at the top.

Anfield next Saturday, where we have not won a league game since 2012.

A goal and an assist from a centre half, in a game that needed someone to make it simple early.
